I am glad it is going so well for you. My first weeks were such a contrast with a public high school. Some of the rooms had Persian rugs. We were allowed to smoke in class so the school had ash trays. The professors seemed to actually like their jobs. They were genuinely interested in what we thought. High school was full of security measures and bad teachers. I did have some bad teachers in college but their intentions were honest.

I was raised that dating was evil. My father repeatedly told me no one would ever want me. I pretended I was above dating. Of course, I wanted to date desperately. I had no social skills.

Lillian Gobitas Klose, the Jehovahs Witness who refused in 1935 to salute the American flag in Minersville, Pa. started a trail that ultimately changed American legal history died Aug. 22 at age 90
by Sol Reform inlillian gobitas klose, the jehovahs witness who refused in 1935 to salute the american flag in minersville, pa. started a trail that ultimately changed american legal history died aug. 22 at age 90. only three years after it had ruled against the gobitas family, the supreme court voted 6-3 to overturn that decision in a case involving a family of jehovahs witnesses from west virginia.. regardless of what one might think of jehovahs witnesses, lillian gobitas is an example of a person whose willingness to fight for her beliefs has expanded everyones personal freedoms.. http://republicanherald.com/news/minersville-girl-made-legal-history-1.1744279.

I decided not to salute the flag during the Movement and Viet Nam. Times had changed. Many black males gave the black power salute. It took the heat away from me. The lawyers decided we had to stand with respect but no hand motions were allowed. High school was so much easier to refuse than grade school. No one was going to expel me. I claimed a little bit of religion.

The Bible is not a fraud. There are many genres of writing in the Bible. You can't go back to the first century and impose present day standards on a very different culture. Knowing the historical circumstances helps. Fraud has certain elements. I truly don't believe that Bible writers and the council that canonized the Bible were deceiving people. More and more I believe that the first readers did not take the books literally.

The government should TAX the WT for the social services spent on JW's.
by EndofMysteries insince there is an abundant supply of literature where the gb tell members not to get education, not to plan for retirement, not to worry about their health, all vs doing more literature peddling, perhaps the government should stick a monthly bill to the wt for the social services, retirement, welfare, medicaid, etc, that is being spent on members because of their insisting that they don't take care of themselves and plan for the future.
.
how quickly would 'new light' come that each member should plan for retirement, should get good schooling, etc??

Don't hold your breath. It is NOT going to happen. When you post credentials that prove you understand First Amendment law, we can have a discussion. The Con'st'n constrains Americans from every whim. This country is becoming more religious, not less. You can't look at New York, San Francisco, and Berkeley and make conclusions.
Try calling federal legislators and see how far you get. The Jehovah's Witness context forbids it absolutely. No religion will want to be taxed. Also, the govt cannot be excessively entangled. You may not like the law but it is the law.

Why was such a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT thing as Internet not foretold in the Bible?
by Pinku injws claim that even such a small thing as proclaiming 1986 as the international year for peace was foretold in the bible.
this raises the question: why was such a great thing as internet (the influence of which could not even be compared with anything in the history at all) not foretold in the bible?
with internet and tv the world has become literally a global village!.

Easy. Al Gore was not yet born when the Bible was written. Also, I cried when he cried about his sister's death from nicotine at the convention. A week later the New York Times reported that Al Gore and his brother in law continued to raise tobacco for profit for years after his sister's death. They only stopped before the presidential campaign.

I attend church services in NY on September 11th. It hurts me that many Americans don't even want to be reminded of the date. Their lives were not disrupted but a few seconds clip of the planes striking the towers is too much for them. The Holocaust, the Crusades, the Plagues, all the religious wars that were more political than religions-these terrors will be minimal compared to the destruction of Armageddon. The famines in the Soviet Union and Red China will be nothing.
I still remember September 11th in such striking detail. It was hardly the worse incident in human history. This was my home and where I work. I need to see the 9/11 museum and the memorial gardens. People say it is emotionally wrenching. NY was where I escaped the WT. All I can do is lead my crusader life. The beheadings are bothering me.

I never felt that I was a whole person as a Witness. In fact, I often was dragged to meetings against my will. I had doubts. Huge doubts. The further I went in school, the more I had doubts. The world was full of decent people. Witnesses were automatons, parroting the GB with no Bible knowledge. My life is not perfect now. Doubts remain. I learned that doubts are essential. Education gave m exposure to art and music. The Force/God nourished me. No one understood me as a Witness. People get me now. My vocational goals were limited as a Witness. Knowledge was anathema to them. It was a hard transition but I am now a professional. Witnesses teach and practice subjugation of women. I am a feminist and worked on US Supreme Court cases. Attraction to the other sex was a sin as a Witness. Once I left, I met many knights in shining armor. I no longer must dumb down. My core crowd is the Ivy League and comps. Makeup and fashion met I was a whore to the Witnesses. Now I can purchase makeup and fashion with glee. I never knew peace as a Witness. Many things bring me peace.
For some reason,I could read many grades above my grade level. I noticed weird things in the WT and the Bible. When I left the Witnesses, I studied the Bible and discussed it with many people from different backgrounds. My faith increased but I know the Bible is a human construct. Oh, I used to be terrorized by a fear of demons. Now I can laugh about them as C.S. Lewis suggested. Now I love C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L'Engle, and the rest. When I most needed help as a teenager, I had to turn to a fashion magazine. They helped me. The editors said that to beat children was wrong. Absolutely. No discussion. The overseer would tell me how evil I was for listening to the Beatles. Now I listen to them live. I cry now when I see art masterpieces. The WT illustrations remind me of Stalinist art.

Questions From Readers : Did Jesus preach to the dead people of Noah's days?
by raymond frantz insorry guys i posted that the other day but with some of the actual post missing ,here it is again .please feel free to find errors, raise questions or fill me in with any more valueable information on the matter .i don't claim to know it all i'm just someone who's constantly looking for answers as most of you here :.
did jesus preach to the dead souls of people from noahs days?what does 1 peter 3:19, 20 mean?
in this state [in the spirit, following his resurrection] also he [jesus] went his way and preached to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient when the patience of god was waiting in noahs days, while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls [souls, kj, dy; people, tev, jb; persons, rs], were carried safely through the water.

We have n o way of knowing what the apostles taught in the immediate aftermath of Jesus' resurrection. The Acts account of Pentecost does not teach content. I just read the Nicene Creed. It only goes so far as his burial. I recall hearing that the hell part was legend. Again, I was not in hell so I have no idea if Jesus were there. The Flood story repels me.
